The Foam Factory Memory Foam Mattresses Offer Top Quality at a Great Price

Memory foam mattresses have grown steadily in popularity over the last two decades, with greater emphasis on better health and sleep.  However, the rapid growth of this revolutionary material has been to both the benefit and detriment of potential customers. More competition lowers costs and provides greater selection, which is a good thing. But conversely, memory foam’s relative infancy in the textile world means there is still much to learn about its manufacture and uses. With its rapid increase in popularity, many companies have entered into the market without the experience or knowledge needed to provide the best quality and value to customers.

With more than three decades of foam industry experience, almost half of that spent working with memory foam, The Foam Factory knows the material, top to bottom. They have witnessed the evolution of memory foam and use that knowledge and experience to produce top-quality foam mattresses at a great value while providing customers with the information necessary to make the purchase that’s right for them.

On face value, memory foam mattresses can most easily be divided into two different categories; expensive or affordable. Atop the memory foam price range is the industry’s innovator, Tempur-Pedic®. While they boast a line of products of the utmost quality, the drawback is that those products are also incredibly expensive. This is understandable for premium products and prices are set at what the market will bear, but a mattress that costs thousands of dollars is simply not an option for many people who want and need a better sleeping experience.

Because of this, The Foam Factory provides a variety of customization options for their memory foam mattresses, including size, height, layers and even what types of memory foam can be used. This lets people achieve a tailored sleeping experience at a fraction of the cost of a Tempur-Pedic® mattress. With mattress prices starting at less than $150, The Foam Factory’s memory foam is affordable for any budget.

While one of the reasons people invest in memory foam is to reduce their stress and anxiety levels through a good night’s sleep, researching and finding the right option tends to exacerbate these issues. Getting honest information in a world where there are thousands of options can sometimes feel more difficult than it should be. This is especially true when a memory foam mattress is manufactured by one company and then retailed through an intermediary company or website.

At Foam By Mail, full product specifications for every memory foam mattress can be easily found online under each material’s Resources tab. Additionally, every product page includes an overview of product features, specific details and images. Many mattresses sold through online retailers only list general information like a product’s dimensions and the foam’s density, such as Bodipedic mattresses. Some brands, like Sleep Innovations, don’t provide any descriptive values for their products on their retail site listings, instead using generalized terms to describe the product.

Firmness, perhaps the most important factor to understand when looking into how to purchase a mattresses, has a measured numerical value like many other memory foam qualities. Firmness is often described vaguely as “soft” or “firm,” even though foam materials go through testing that produces a range of numerical values that typically span from 8 to 70 for open-cell foam. These values are not always provided to consumers, because they limit the way a product can be marketed. Without test data that allows a product to be compared to measurable values or other products, claims of “high-quality” products can be easily made. True firmness values are found by putting a material through a standardized test called Indentation Load Deflection (ILD).  This assessment compresses identically sized materials a certain percentage of their height and records the force required to do so, an objective evaluation. The Foam Factory provides firmness values and many others for their products because of their confidence in their materials, helping customers make informed purchases.

Sleep Innovations, who does not sell their product directly, also does not provide numerical testing values or the firmness of their 12 inch memory foam mattress sold on Amazon. This implies that all memory foam is the same in terms of firmness which is untrue. Bodipedic, who also only sells through other retailers, states on their Overstock listing that every memory foam mattress has a slightly different firmness “due to the nature of memory foam.” This is also false, as quality memory foam manufacturers test and continually monitor their products for quality and consistency, ensuring accurate levels of firmness that can be relied upon to be true. Some companies like Tempur-Pedic® allow customers to select mattress foam based on firmness, showing that it is, in fact, a measurable and maintainable characteristic. However, they filter products by words, with mattresses being either “soft,” medium,” or “firm.” This is obviously better than no information but it also is a subjective definition. What one person considers a firm mattress, another may not.

When not openly stated by the retailer, locating this information can prove to be difficult. The Foam Factory sells and manufactures all their own memory foam products, so any questions a customer has can be directly addressed by the people who made their product and know it inside and out.

While it may be a surprise to some, few conventional foam mattresses and almost no memory foam mattresses are made out of a single, solid cut of foam due to the resulting price. Instead, memory foam mattresses feature a base support layer of conventional foam with a layer of the temperature-sensitive memory foam on the top. Because of the nature of the material and its response to weight at different thicknesses, people still receive the custom contoured support and cushioning of memory foam at a more reasonable price.  Some mattress designs include multiple layers under the memory foam layer in an effort to provide a blend of comfort and support through different foam types.

The Foam Factory’s standard mattress selection allows for any density memory foam to be placed in a 3 or 4 inch thick layer atop a 5 inch conventional foam base. These thicknesses were arrived upon because memory foam less than 3 inches thick may not be thick enough to prevent “bottoming out” under greater body weights. Conventional foam bases much thicker than 5 inches are only adding extra height to a mattress, because body weight compression can only extend so deeply into mattress. And while some people desire taller mattresses, there are more affordable alternatives to a height increase than using a performance material.

Bodipedic’s Overstock listing for their 12 inch queen-size mattress only includes a 2 inch layer of memory foam. At a price of more than $500, only about 17 percent of the total mattress consists of the memory foam it is being purchased for. A similar effect could be achieved by just purchasing a much more affordable mattress topper for an existing bed. Sleep Innovations’ 12 inch mattresses on Amazon feature a 2.5 inch layer of temperature-sensitive memory foam, totaling about 21 percent of the entire product. Both brands’ 10 inch offerings consist of a 7 inch base with 3 inches of performance memory foam, totaling 30 percent of the product. By comparison, a The Foam Factory mattress with a 4 inch memory foam layer atop a 5 inch conventional foam base is a 44 percent performance product mattress, far greater than the other companies.

Even with a greater amount of memory foam per mattress, products from The Foam Factory are still more affordable than the other two companies. Compared to Sleep Innovations’ 10 inch mattress with 3 pound density foam*, The Foam Factory’s 9 inch mattress costs less while utilizing 5 pound memory foam of greater density and quality than the 3 pound Sleep Innovations foam, all while containing 14 percent more performance memory foam per mattress. Compared against Bodipedic’s 10 inch mattress with 3 pound density memory foam, The Foam Factory’s 9 inch mattress with 5 pound density memory foam is nearly $100 cheaper with greater quality memory foam and more of it.

Additionally, both Tempur-Pedic® and Bodipedic include an option to have convoluted/eggcrate foam as an interior layer in their mattresses. Their claim is that this non-solid cut pattern permits cooling airflow through the mattress. While convoluted foam would provide increased airflow compared to regular sheet foam, this characteristic is only applicable when the material is in contact with the sleeper. With a peak and valley design, the eggcrate pattern allows more air to travel between the user and the foam because it is not a consistent, flat surface. However, when placed under a top memory foam layer, the eggcrate foam only adds thickness with the user not in contact with its airflow-allowing design. And even that impact is minimized, because the eggcrate design isn’t capable of being as supportive as a solid foam sheet.  The Foam Factory manufactures and sells convoluted memory foam mattress toppers in both conventional and memory foam, but does not include them as internal mattress layers where the benefits of their design are rendered useless.

The purchase of a new mattress is a substantial one, in terms of financial and personal impact. For this reason, it’s important to get a product that meets your needs perfectly. The Foam Factory makes it easy to satisfy your requirements with their product variety, information, customization and knowledge, so you can rest easy.
